Rockin' the new Broken Bells album

Giving the new Broken Bells' album a full listen today. Loving what I hear so far, esp. The High Road, The Ghost Inside, October. If you didn't read my previous post about them, this is a collaboration between Danger Mouse (most famous for being half of Gnarls Barkley) and The Shins' James Mercer. Check out this great review here.

New badass Gorillaz Video for Stylo feat. Bruce Willis

New mixtape below!

This video is fantastic! I'm a pretty big fan of this song as well.
There are tons of remixes of it already. My fave has to be Alex Metric's treatment of it. I have a new mixtape on Soundcloud which features the Stylo remix about 20 minutes in. Have a listen:

Holly Miranda, Tegan & Sara Videos from show @ Variety Playhouse, Atlanta

If you recall, I blogged a while ago about Tegan & Sara coming to Atlanta. Alas, I remembered a little too late and by the time I went to check for tickets, they were sold out. Bummer.

I follow Tegan & Sara on Twitter. And yesterday, as I was wrapping up for the day, I saw this Tweet come across my TweetDeck:

@theteganandsara Sold out show in Atlanta. But I have 20 tickets for tonight. Be the first 10 people to @reply and ill message u back with a pair of tickets.

I immediately replied and about 20 minutes later got this tweet back from them:

@angela_ann u r on the list + 1. Variety Play House. Pick the tickets up with ID at the door by 8pm or they'll sell the tickets! ENJOY!

SWEET! Looks like the wifey and I were on for an unexpected date night. After a lil sushi, we headed to the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. (Which has amazing acoustics!!!)

This was one of the opening bands, Holly Miranda. I have to say, I was super impressed them. This is an impromptu song that they had just rehearsed in sound check. Man! They are great.

Everyone was super excited for T+S to come out on stage...I love the excitement of a crowd when the act comes out. Here's what happened last night:

Anyway, you can click to check out the rest of the videos I posted of the following songs:

Finally, they did an acoustic version of the Feel It in My Bones, which is the song they did with Tiesto. The Tiesto track was in the same blog post a couple months back. This is an acoustic version of it and is delightful. This was part of their encore.

Great night overall.

p.s. I'm over my Flip HD Ultra. Cannot handle darkness as you can see. I'm ready for a new vidcam. Suggestions anyone????

Crazy week = best release : Tryst this Friday!!!

Man! This week has been crazy at work. The good news is there is work. The bad news is there's a lot to be done in a short time. HOWEVER, a busy week makes for a really great weekend. I am so looking forward to releasing some gems on y'all at Tryst this Friday. (Bellissima, Midtown, 10:30p)

I'll be spinning some badass new tracks. This Karin Park remix is A-mazing. I can't wait to play it...who knows, I might just play it over and over and over again....hehe.

Groove Armada ('member them? I see you baby....) have a new track out called, Paper Romance. And it's been remixed by some great producers already. Got a great Urchins remix I will share with you.

Plus there is so much more to share with y'all.

For all you producers...the VST for Heads Will Roll discovered!

I just peeped this on A-Trak's blog, DJ U-Tern from Vancouver came across the VST that actually is the source (without any editing or effects) of the main synth/string line in the YYYs Heads Will Roll. This is where the defining sound of that song comes from. Interesting. I'm sure a bunch of producers will now try to replicate it. But just shows the power of all these plug-ins to enable artists to create original music. I love it!!!

Lady Gaga's Telephone (feat. Beyonce) remixed by Crookers & Passion Pit

Crookers remix?

Or Passion Pit remix?

Personally, I think I like the Crookers remix better. But both are great.

Don't miss the Dance for Haiti Fundraiser

Hello friends. It's been a hot minute since I've blogged. Been heads down working on music: DJing and working on learning Ableton Live inside and out. But wanted to bring your attention to a great event coming up. Dance for Haiti at Atlanta's My Sister's Room in East Atlanta Village. All the proceeds are going to the American Red Cross in support of the people of Haiti.

Please come out and help us raise money. There will be a great lineup of DJs. D:RC and DJ LOWE KI will be bringing the hip hop. And I'll be bringing the house down late into the night. We have a special performance by Nicole Paige Brooks who was just a contestant on Season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race

Don't miss this night. It's going to be fantastic event. Wed, Feb 10 starting at 8pm.

Lauren Flax; female producer extraordinaire

I am really digging Lauren Flax right now. Two songs in particular are fantastic collaborations with other great artists: SIA and MEN. She's a fantastic producer and DJ. And as a burgeoning female producer  myself, it's super encouraging to hear other female producers out there. It's like coming across a female drummer. Doesn't happen very often. In fact, there's a whole magazine/site devoted to female drummers - Tom Tom Magazine - simply because there are never any women in any of the other drumming sites or magazines. Same is true for electronic music production; women are missing.

Anyway, it's always good to have role models, right? And Lauren Flax is a great example of that. Her latest remix of MEN's Simulatenously rocks my soul (to put it bluntly). It's beautiful. In fact, I think I like this treatment better than the original, which is quite a feat as the original is spectacular. (BTW - if you haven't checked out MEN yet, you must.)

Flax's track "You've Changed" which features vocals by Sia (former singer of Zero 7 and now solo artist) has been out for awhile. But the remixes of it keep coming. Here you have a treatment of it by Larry Tee. Anytime Larry Tee remixes one of your songs, you know you've made it!

Anyway, I aspire to make music like Flax someday. She's a great inspiration.

I'll be spinning these and other tracks this Friday the 22nd at the W Downtown. Stop by for some deep, sexy and soulful music.

Finally, next Friday the 22nd, I'll be making my debut at The Living Room in the W Downtown. Don't miss out on the hottest, sexiest and smoothest house and as the night progresses we'll get into some funky stuff. No child's play at the W!

Excited for upcoming Broken Bells album - Danger Mouse & Shin's James Mercer

I just learned of the collaboration between producer extraordinaire Danger Mouse and the Shin's James Mercer. They are going by the name "Broken Bells". The album isn't out until March 2010. But there is a sneak peak of the first song on the album at NPRs' All Songs Considered. The song is gorgeous. Listen here

Danger Mouse is most popularly known for being 50% of the Gnarls Barkley duo. But his collaborations with Beck, David Lynch, The Black Keys, MF Doom, etc. are just as notable. I aspire to produce music someday that is even remotely close to his diverse talent.
